Abbey Falls at Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, NC- The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (15-3) scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally from a five-run deficit to defeat Belmont Abbey College (10-7), 11-8, Tuesday afternoon at Bears Field.

The Bears also pushed their winning streak to eight games and defeated the Crusaders for the second time in six days.

Trailing 7-2 after five and a half innings, Lenoir-Rhyne plated nine runs in their half of the sixth highlighted by sophomore catcher Dallas Tarleton's (Monroe, N.C./Piedmont HS) three-run home run and senior shortstop Taylor MacCurdy's (Charlotte, N.C./Providence HS) two-run double.

Tarleton finished with two hits and three runs batted in while freshman pitcher Kurt Benton (Stanfield, N.C./West Stanly HS) picked up his first career win.

Junior Josh Keller (Catfish, N.C./Methodist College) saved his third consecutive game for the Bears, who have won 13 of their last 14 contests.

A four-run fourth inning helped the Crusaders jump out to a 7-2 advantage and Seth Waller (Salisbury, N.C.) and Alex Castellanos (Miami, Fla.) hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth frame but Belmont Abbey couldn't hold the lead.
