The Belmont Abbey College Crusaders swept a doubleheader with
Anderson University Trojans Saturday at Anderson Memorial Stadium
to give the Trojans their first two conference losses of the
year.
Alex
Udwari's three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning proved
to be enough to hold off the Trojans in the first game, 8-6.
In the
second game, Belmont Abbey scored six runs in the first inning to
take control early and the Crusaders went on to post a 10-6
victory.
Jonathan
Pitts' two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth of the first
game tied the score at 5, but the Crusaders answered in the top of
the fifth with a one-out double by Seth Waller and Udwari's
three-run home run in the sixth.
The Trojans
were led offensively in the first game by Blair Carson, who was
3-for-4 with a run scored, and by Pitts, who was 2-for-3 with a
three-run home run. Anderson stranded nine men on base.
Belmont
Abbey started game two of the doubleheader with six runs in the
first inning off of five hits. The big hit in the inning was a
three-run double by Seth Waller.
The Crusaders scored two more runs in third on a solo home run by
Waller and an RBI double by Josh Haire.
The Trojans
scored three runs in the fourth on five walks and no hits then
added two runs in fifth on a two-run double by Pitts to make the
score 8-5.
After the Crusaders scored two runs in the top of the seventh, the
Trojans scored one in the bottom of the seventh.
Pitts
led the Trojans offensively by going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run
scored. The Crusaders out hit the Trojans in the second game,
16-8.
With the sweep, Belmont Abbey improves to 9-6, 3-2. Anderson
is
now 7-11, 3-2.
