CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Noah Whack and
Josh Gulapa got Belmont Abbey's participation at the UNC Charlotte's 49er Classic underway a day early, competing in the first five events of the decathlon.
Whack, in his first collegiate decathlon, sits ninth with 3,054 points. He finished among the top 5 in the 14-man field in the 100m dash and the high jump and had two personal bests (high jump and 400m).
Gulapa had a personal best in the shot put en route to a 12th-place standing.
The final five events and the first day of the full meet schedule are on Friday.
