SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Belmont Abbey finished second among 20 teams at United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championship sectional Sunday, claiming one of the four qualifying slots for the Intercollegiate Team National Championship. The appearance will be the program's first and punctuates a weekend that saw freshman Joseph Woods Wiseman qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship on Friday.

The national tournament will take place April 16-18 at the The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in Green Bay, Wis.

After holding the lead at the halfway point yesterday, the Crusaders fell into second after game 36, when Webber International rolled a 300 to take the lead for good. The two teams held their spots the rest of the day with The Abbey 131 pins behind in the final standings, but 682 pins over the cut line for advancing.

Sunday's play saw an average score of 213.6 with 21 games over 200 and a high of 269.

Belmont Abbey now turns its attention to the Conference Carolinas Championship, slated to begin Friday in Newport, Ky.
