BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Belmont Abbey acrobatics & tumbling team returned to the mat to compete in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals against No. 1 seed Limestone Saturday afternoon at King University's Student Events Center.
The No. 4 seed Crusaders saw its conference postseason run come to an end, falling 240.945-215.640 to the Saints.
Belmont Abbey is now 7-4 on the season while Limestone is 11-1 and has advanced to the championship meet of the conference semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 — Compulsory
The Crusaders finished with 31.15/40 compared to a 35.575/40 for the Saints. Belmont Abbey's two best scores came in the Pyramid and Toss Heats, scoring a 9.550 and 8.875, respectively.
Event 2 — Acro
Belmont Abbey scored a 9.025/10 in 5 Element Acro as the best score of the event. The Crusaders also scored a 7.425/10 in 7 Element. The Abbey finished with a 22.775 compared to a 25.325 for the Saints.
Event 3 — Pyramid
Belmont Abbey scored a 24.5 out of a possible 30 points while Limestone had a 28.375/29.80. The Crusaders' two best scores came in Heat 1 (Inversion) and Heat 3 (Open), scoring a 9.0 and 9.75, respectively, out of a 10.0 start value.
Event 4 — Toss
Belmont Abbey finished with a 24.1/28.2 thanks to scores of 8.0 or higher in 450 Salto Toss and Open Toss. The Crusaders scored an 8.425/9.3 in the 450 Salto and 8.075/9.6 in the Open Toss.
Event 5 — Tumbling
Belmont Abbey scored a 46.125/53.35 in the tumbling event with scores of 7.2/8.75 in Trop and 6.45/8.0 in the Quad Pass. The Crusaders did have scores of 8.0 or higher in the individual passes, highlighted by an 8.775/9.55 in the Aerial Pass.
Event 6 — Team Event
The Crusaders finished with a scored of 66.99/99.39 in the team event. Limestone finished with a 74.92/101.22.
