Abbey Acro Closes Season with Victory at Converse

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey acrobatics and tumbling team earned its second consecutive win as the Crusaders closed the regular season with a 232.365-227.040 victory over Converse Monday evening at the Weisiger Center.

The Crusaders earned the victory in large part to a strong performance in the tumbling event after rallying behind from a halftime deficit.

Belmont Abbey closes the season with a 2-5 overall record and Conference Carolinas mark. Converse closes the season at 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 — Compulsory
The Crusaders jumped out to an early 33.15-32.30 lead to being the meet.
 
Belmont Abbey's best score came in the Pyramid Heat, scoring a 9.5/10. Additionally, the Crusaders scored an 8.55/10 in the Toss Heat.
 
Converse's best scores also came in Pyramid and Toss, with a 9.4 and 9.3, respectively.

Event 2 — Acro
Belmont Abbey extended its lead by holding a 25.55-24.20 advantage in the Event.
 
The Crusaders put together a strong showing in 5 Element and 7 Element with scores of 9.25/9.95 and 9.1/9.85, respectively.
 
Competing in 5 Element was Mackenzie Linegar, Andresa Orendain, Grace Carroll, Brielle Ehasz and Katilyn Blakeney. Blakeney and Orendain also competed in 7 Element along with Sadie Hunt, Isabella Schrout and Alyssa Westbrook.

Event 3 — Pyramid
The Crusaders closed out the first half of the meet with a 21.8/29.3 while Converse took the lead with a 26.9/29.2.
 
Belmont Abbey's best score came in the Inversion Pyramid, scoring a 9.0/9.5.
Competing for the Crusaders in the heat was Westbrook, Brianna Buchear, Sarah Brady, Meagan Henry, Anna Audet, Paige Morgan and Payton Lanier.
 
Converse took an 83.4-80.5 lead into halftime.

Event 4 — Toss
The Crusaders began to chip away at the deficit by edging out the Valkyries 25.75-25.65 in the event. Belmont Abbey scored an 8.2 or higher in all three heats, highlighted by an 8.7/9.0 in the 450 Salto Toss and an 8.85/9.4 in the Open Toss.
 
Payton Lanier competed in the 450 Salto Toss along with Sarah Brady, Mckenna Shane, Westbrook, Audet and Ehasz. Brady also competed in the Open toss along with Schrout, Linegar, Blakeney, Carroll and Buchear.
 
Event 5 — Tumbling
Belmont Abbey came back with a 47.625/52.25 start value in the tumbling event.
 
In the team passes, the best score came in the Trio Pass as Fluellen, Shane and Henry scored an 8.0/8.75. Hunt and Lanier also scored a 7.65/8.6 in the Duo Pass.
 
Fluellen added yet another score of 9.0 or better in the Aerial Pass with a 9.05/9.55. Hunt scored an 8.225/8.6 in the 6 Element Pass while Henry scored an 8.55/8.75 in the Open Pass.
 
Converse scored a 41.65/47.45 in the event.

Event 6 — Team Event
The meet concluded with Belmont Abbey scoring a 78.49/96.19 compared to a 76.34/91.94 for Converse.

  • Belmont Abbey is in consideration for competition at the Conference Carolinas Tournament Event Finals.
  • The full field and conference tournament will be unveiled following the conclusion of the regular season this weekend.
