GAFFNEY, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey Acrobatics & Tumbling team earned a split of a tri-meet against No. 10 Limestone and Newberry Friday evening at Limestone's Timken Center.
The Crusaders earned a 238.665 win over the Wolves — a first-year program — while falling 265.145-238.665 to the Saints.
After Friday's meet, Belmont Abbey is now 2-1 overall and 2-1 in Conference Carolinas competition. Limestone is now 2-0 as it was its season opener while Newberry is 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 — Compulsory
Belmont Abbey and Limestone were separated by just two points in the opening event of the meet. The two best scores of the event came in the Pyramid and Toss Heats, scoring a 9.65 and 9.5, respectively. Additionally, Belmont Abbey also scored a 9.15 in the Acro Heat.
Event 2 — Acro
The best score for the Crusaders came in 5 Element Acro, scoring a 9.5 out of a 10-point start value. Competing for Belmont Abbey in the heat was
Molly Froman,
Gracie Grady,
Valentina Ordonez,
Gabrielle Cox and
Mackenzie Linegar. Belmont Abbey scored a 22.2 in the event.
Event 3 — Pyramid
The Crusaders continued the meet with a 9.45/9.70 in the Inversion Pyramid while scoring a strong 9.9/10 in the Open Pyramid. In Heat 1 (Inversion), Grady and Cox competed in the heat along with
Erena Chaples,
Deanna Woolard,
Kylie Brophy,
Sarah Brady,
Roy Gannon and
Ashley Poillucci.
In the Open Pyramid, Grady and Froman participated along with
Reese Johnson,
Anna Audet,
Audra Kaiser and
Payton Lanier.
At halftime, Belmont Abbey had 84.55 points compared to 96.05 for Limestone and 44.6 from Newberry.
Event 4 — Toss
Belmont Abbey scored 26.15 out of a possible 28.2 points. The strongest score came in Open Toss, scoring a 9.2/9.6. Froman, Cox, Audet and Johnson participated in the heat along with
Alyssa Westbrook and
Katilyn Blakeney. The Crusaders also had scores of 8.65/9.3 in the 450 Salto Toss and 8.3/9.3 in Synchronized Toss.
Event 5 — Tumbling
The Crusaders had a total of 47.575 points in the went with two scores that were within 0.5 points from its start value. In Trio Pass, Belmont Abbey scored an 8.25/8.75 with
Meagan Henry,
Tia Fluellen and
Trinity Martinez competing. In Quad Pass, Brady, Kaiser, Lanier and
Madison Quinlan scored an 7.55/8.0.
In the individual passes, Quinlan scored an 8.05/8.6 in the Aerial Pass with Martinez scoring an 8.7/9.55 in the Open Toss.
Deanna Woolard also scored an 8.275/9.2 in the 6 Element Pass.
Event 6 — Team Event
Belmont Abbey closed the meet with an 80.39 in the Team Event.
