GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Belmont Abbey acrobatics & tumbling team competed in its penultimate meet of the regular season as the Crusaders faced Lander Thursday evening at Finis Horne Arena.
Belmont Abbey took an early lead and had it through halftime before the Bearcats closed the deficit and earned a 261.825-259.095 victory over the Abbey.
With the result, Belmont Abbey is now 4-4 overall, 4-3 in Conference Carolinas competition. Lander is 6-3 overall, 5-2 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 — Compulsory
The Crusaders started the meet by taking a slim 36.30-35.95 lead over the Bearcats. Belmont Abbey had three scores of 9.05 or higher highlighted by a 9.75 in the Pyramid heat and 9.5 in the Toss Heat.
Event 2 — Acro
Lander took the lead over the Abbey with a 28.1-27.7 advantage in the event. The best score from the Crusaders came in 5 Element Acro, scoring a 9.7/10. Isabella Schrout, Gracie Grady, Blythe Terrell, Valentina Ordonez and Mackenzie Linegar all contributed to the scores in the heat. Belmont Abbey also had a 9.45/10 in Heat 3 (7 Element Acro).
Event 3 — Pyramid
Belmont Abbey regained the lead going into halftime thanks to a 29.2-28.95 advantage in the event. The Crusaders finished with a 9.5 or higher in all three heats. The best score came in the Open Pyramid as the team earned a 9.9/10. Lauren Pipes, Terrell, Kylie Brophy, Kristin Fary, Linegar and Lauren Phillips competed in the heat for the Abbey.
Event 4 — Toss
Belmont Abbey finished with a 24.6 out of a 28.5 possible start value. The Crusaders' best score came in Heat 1, the 450 Salto Toss as the Abbey finished with an 8.8/9.9. Lander finished with a 27.2 and was able to recapture the lead.
Event 5 — Tumbling
Belmont Abbey finished with a total of 50.775 in the event. In the team passes, the Trio pass team of Maddie Quinlan, Deanna Woolard and Erena Chaples earned an 8.5/9.1 to lead that section.
In the individual passes, Quinlan put together a strong performance with an 8.95/9.1 in the Open Pass. Additionally, Sadie Hunt scored an 8.625/9.4 in the 6 Element Pass.
Event 6 — Team Event
Belmont Abbey closed the meet with a 90.52. Lander ended with an 89.

- Belmont Abbey will close the regular season with a home meet against King scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 at the Wheeler Center.
- 14 seniors will be honored following the conclusion of the meet as part of the Senior Day celebration.
