WINGATE, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey acrobatics & tumbling team returned to action and earned a sweep of a tri-meet between Wingate and Emmanuel Friday evening at Wingate's Cuddy Arena.
The Crusaders finished with a 255.120 total compared to Emmanuel's 243.570 and Wingate's 225.990.
With Friday's results, Belmont Abbey improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas competition.
Emmanuel is now 4-3 overall and 3-3 in league competition. Wingate is now 2-4 overall, 1-3 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 — Compulsory
The Crusaders got off to a good start to begin the meet with a 35.8 point total compared to 33.35 and 31.35 for Emmanuel and Wingate, respectively. The two highest scores came for the Abbey came in the Acro and Pyramid heat with scores of 9.70 and 9.50, respectively.
Event 2 — Acro
Belmont Abbey was able to extend its lead thanks to a 25.95 score from a 29.3 start value. The best score came in 7 Element Acro (Heat 3) with a 9.45/10. Erena Chaples, Madeleine Martin, Kristin Fary, Blythe Terrell and Deanna Woolard all contributed to the score for the Crusaders. Emmanuel and Wingate had total scores of 25.65 and 22.75, respectively.
Event 3 — Pyramid
The Crusaders had a strong showing in the event by earning a score of 29.1 from a 30-point start value. Belmont Abbey scored a 9.5 or higher in all three heats highlighted by a 9.85 in the Open Pyramid. Lauren Pipes, Blythe Terrell, Kylie Brophy, Fary, Mackenzie Linegar and Lauren Phillips all earned that score for the Crusaders. At halftime, the Abbey held a 90.85 lead compared to 87.65 for Emmanuel and 79.35 for Wingate.
Event 4 — Toss
Belmont Abbey continued to extend its lead with a 25.15/28 in the event as the Crusaders had three scores of 8.15 or higher. Heats 1 and 2 both had identical of 8.15 scored while the Open Toss finished with an 8.85/9.30 start value. Fary,
Emily Wueste, Bella Schrout, Terrell,
Trinity Martinez and Chaples.
Event 5 — Tumbling
Belmont Abbey had the best scores of the event with a 49.900 from a 53.90 start value. The individual passes all had scores of 8.65 or higher with Sadie Hunt scoring an 8.825 from a 9.40 start value. Following that, Deanna Woolard scored an 8.825 from a 9.1 start value. Trinity Martinez had the highest team tumbling scores along with Victoria Bonham with a 7.95/8.9 in the Duo Pass. Martinez also earned an 8.65/8.9 in the Aerial Pass.
Event 6 — Team Event
Belmont Abbey closed the meet with an 89.22/101.37. Emmanuel finished with an 82.17 and Wingate with a 78.99.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will head to Lander to face the Bearcats next Thursday, March 21st, in Greenwood, South Carolina.
- It will be the penultimate meet of the regular season for The Abbey.
