GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey acrobatics & tumbling team closed out the 2023 regular season with a road meet at Limestone Wednesday.
The two teams entered the meet as the No. 9 and No. 10 teams according to the latest rankings released by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA).
Belmont Abbey finishes the regular season 8-2 overall and 7-1 in Conference Carolinas. Limestone finishes 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference and clinched the outright conference championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1—Compulsory
Both the Crusaders and the Saints earned strong scores to begin the meet with Limestone holding a 38.35-36.50 edge over The Abbey. The Crusaders' two best scores came in Heats 2 and 3 with a 9.85 and 9.55, respectively.
Event 2—Acro
Belmont Abbey scored a 26.05 in the Acro event highlighted by a 9.55/9.9 in Heat 3 (7 Element). Additionally, the Crusaders scored a 9.0/9.8 in Heat 2.
Event 3—Pyramid
Both teams earned strong scores in the event as both were less than a point away from matching their start values. Limestone held a 29.65-28.90 edge over The Abbey. The three scores for the heat for the Crusaders were as follows: 9.6/9.9 in Heat 1, 9.45/9.9 in Heat 2 and 9.85/10 in Heat 3. At halftime, Limestone held a 96.95-91.45 advantage.
Event 4—Toss
The Crusaders scored a 25.85 total in the toss led by an 8.85/9.4 in the 450 Salto Toss (Heat 1). The team also had an 8.65/9 in Heat 3.
Event 5 –Tumbling
Belmont Abbey finished with an 51.70 for the vent. In the Aerial Pass, the Crusaders finished with a 9.275/9.6 while also earning an 8.825/9.5 in the Open Pass. Limestone finished with 55.15 out of 56.75 possible points.
Event 6—Team
The Crusaders finished with a 92.54/101.15 in the Team Event. Limestone earned a 94.27/103.87 to close the meet.
UP NEXT
- The Crusaders will return to action at the Conference Carolinas tournament April 15-16 at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.
- The tournament begins with the quarterfinals Tuesday at the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.
- Belmont Abbey will be the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of the No. 3 and No. 6 seed matchup at 3 p.m. Saturday April 15.
- The regular season closes Thursday.
