BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey acrobatics and tumbling team came away with a pair of victories on Senior Day over Mars Hill and Chowan Saturday at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders earned a 259.395-240.445 win over the Lions and 259.345-69.425 win over the Hawks. Mars Hill defeated Chowan to finish 1-1 for the meet.

The Crusaders are now 7-1 overall, 6-0 in Conference Carolinas action. Chowan is now 0-7 in the conference and in the league while Mars Hill is 2-3 and 2-2, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1 – Compulsory
The Crusaders got off to a good start in the meet, earning scores of 9.85 and 9.50 in the Pyramid (Heat 2) and Toss (Heat 3), respectively. Belmont Abbey earned a total score of 36.85 compared to 34.95 for Mars Hill and 16.30 for Chowan.
Event 2 – Acro
The Crusaders finished with a 26.55 for the event highlighted by a 9.4/9.8 in Heat 1 (5-Element Acro.)
Erena Chaples, Madeliene McCauley,
Kristin Fary,
Blythe Terrell and
Lauren Phillips led the way for The Abbey in the heat. The team also scored a 9.05/9.90 in Heat 3. Mars Hill and Chowan finished with scores of 25.05 and 7.05, respectively.
Event 3 – Pyramid
The Crusaders earned 27.75 points to close the first half of the meet. Belmont Abbey finished with a strong 9.8/9.9 in the Inversion Pyramid (Heat 1) and also scored a 9.6/9.9 in the Synchronized Pyramid (Heat 2). Belmont Abbey had 91.15 points in the first half while Mars Hill and Chowan finished with 84.55 and 37.60 points, respectively.
Event 4 – Toss
Belmont Abbey and Mars Hill finished within a point in the Event with the Crusaders holding a 24.85-24.05 advantage. The Crusaders earned a pair of 8.4/9.1 scores in the 450 Salto Toss (Heat 1) and Synchronized Toss (Heat 2).
Event 5 – Tumbling
The Crusaders earned a total of 51.375 points in the event. From the team passes, the best score came in the Trio Pass with Chaples, Davis and
Aspen Terrell earning 8.4 out of a 9.1 start value.
Deanna Woolard,
Sarah Brady, Gaby Cox and
Lilly Macrina eanred an 8.15/8.5 in the Quad Pass. Individually, Davis earned a 9.15/9.5 in the Aerial Pass while
Amiya Shazier finishing with a 9.375/9.6 in the 6-Element Pass.
Event 6 – Team Event
The Crusaders wrapped up the event scoring a 92.02 in the team event. It is the fourth straight meet that Belmont Abbey has earned a score of 90 points or higher in the team event. Mars Hill closed the meet with an 84.82 in the team event.

The Crusaders host Lander at 6 p.m. Friday at the Wheeler Center in the final home meet of the regular season.
Belmont Abbey concludes the season with a road meet at Limestone April 5.
