BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey acrobatics and tumbling team moved to 2-0 on the 2023 season by rallying back to earn a 257.795-256.625 win over Coker in a Conference Carolinas meet Friday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders trailed for most of the meet before closing the meet with a 90.42 in the team event to come away with the victory. Belmont Abbey moved to 2-0 in Conference Carolinas with the win while the Cobras are now 1-1 overall and in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Event 1—Compulsory
Coker took a 36.90-34.60 lead after the first event. The Cobras had all four heats with scores of 8.5 or higher. Belmont Abbey's best score came in the Pyramid Heat (Heat 2) with a 9.7 from a 10-point start value.
Event 2 –Acro
The Crusaders began to chip away at the deficit with a 27.60-27.55 advantage in the second event. The best score from the event came in Heat 3 with the team of
Isabella Schrout,
Gracie Grady,
Bri Camp,
Lauren Pipes and
Emily Wueste earning a 9.55/9.9 for the team.
Event 3 — Pyramid
The Cobras were able to take a 2.5-point advantage into halftime with a perfect 10 in Heat 3. The Crusaders also came away with strong scores in the event, highlighted by a 9.8/9.9 in the Inversion Pyramid (Heat 1).
Event 4 – Toss
After halftime, Belmont Abbey continued to make up ground in the Toss Event. The Crusaders scored 8.65 or higher in all three events. The highest score came in the first heat with an 8.75/9.4.
Event 5 — Tumbling
Belmont Abbey got to within a point of the Cobras with scores of 8.0 or higher in all six heats.
Anna Davis and
Amiya Shazier competed in three of the six heat. The duo earned an 8.0 in the duo pass with Davis scoring an 8.775 in the aerial pass to go with an 8.75 by Shazier in the 6-element pass.
Event 6 — Team Event
The Crusaders earned a 90.42 from a 101.08 start value to overtake the Cobras and complete the comeback.

- Belmont Abbey goes back on the road down to Florida for its next meet at Saint Leo Friday, March 3 at 6 p.m.
- It is the second straight year that the two programs have met. Belmont Abbey defeated Saint Leo 263.965-259.600 back on March 16 last year in Belmont.
