Thomas Sullivan saved 15 of the 16 shots on goal he faced and
Davis McCulley scored three times, leading 20th-ranked Belmont Abbey to a 7-1 victory over Catawba in men's college lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.
Four other players tallied a goal each for the Crusaders, which improved to 2-1 on the season. The Indians fall to 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tim Palmer opened the scoring on a pass from Jeremy Mahoney with 2:38 left in the opening period.
- Just 47 seconds later, McCulley doubled the lead after an assist by Mikey Sweigart.
- Each team scored a single goal in the second quarter, the first by Matthew Wyatt from Palmer made the score 3-0 before a man-up score by Catawba sent the teams to the locker room at 3-1.
- The Crusaders broke the game open in the third with three goals. Michael Canavan found the net at 10:32 before McCulley gained his second with 6:44 left in the period. Sweigart was assisted by McCulley at the 3:03 mark to push the lead to 6-1 after three.
- The duo flip-flopped for the final goal with Sweigart feeding McCulley just 1:07 into the fourth.
- Belmont Abbey won 10 of 11 faceoffs in the contest.
