GREENVILLE, S.C. - Belmont Abbey sophomore pitcher
Ethan Wilson was named Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week by the league office Tuesday.
A sophomore right-handed pitcher from Waxhaw, North Carolina, Wilson put together a pair of quality relief appearances for Belmont Abbey baseball in wins at Limestone and Trevecca Nazarene. Wilson sealed the game in the ninth inning against the Saints and put together a strong appearance against the Trojans. Two of the three outs of the game against Limestone were recorded via strikeout.
Down 4-0 when he entered the game in the top of the third inning, Wilson held Trevecca Nazarene to just four hits and only gave up one walk while recording 10 strikeouts. His effort on the mound allowed Belmont Abbey to rally in the second game of a doubleheader and eventually earn a 5-4 victory in seven innings. The 10 strikeouts were a career-best for Wilson as was the five innings in relief. Wilson leads Conference Carolinas with 19 strikeouts so far this season.
The Crusaders take on Wingate at 4 p.m. at Abbey Yard and open Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series at UNC Pembroke Friday.
