ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. and MT. GILEAD, N.C. – Belmont Abbey men's golfer
Will Locey took home the medalist title thanks to his play at the Jay Jennison Cup Tuesday. Locey closed the tournament with a final-round 74 and won with a three-round total of 2-under par (71-69-74—214).
Locey won the tournament by one stroke over Max Lindad of Mount Olive, Ian Aldarondo of Embry-Riddle and Liam Waldron of Lenoir-Rhyne. As a team, the Crusaders finished ninth after closing the tournament with a final-round 302. Lenoir-Rhyne moved up two positions to win the team title (294-289-287—870) with Mount Olive (293-285-296—874) and Wingate (299-288-296—883) finishing second and third, respectively.
Jacob Ferrari finished tied for 33rd with a final-round 77 (75-77-77—229).
Lucca Gonzalez Dormoi closed the tournament with a 79 (74-79-79—232) while
Nick Norman (79-78-76) and
Lee Carew (77-81-75) both finished with three-round totals of 233.
Brandon Spinks and
Eduardo Arango competed as individuals and finished with rounds of 78 and 85, respectively.
The Belmont Abbey B team also came away with the team title at the Jack Ingram Pfeiffer Fall Invitational with a final round 291 for a two-day total of 599.
Sam Newton finished tied for second to lead the way for the Crusaders with a 3-under-par 69 in the final round for a two-round total of 148, one shot back of Catawba's Chase Clayton.
Elian Infante (75-74—149), Brenden Kelly (74-77—151) was tied for sixth,
Tyler Schaap (80-73—153) tied for 12th and
Jake Snelgrove tied for 17th.
The Crusaders finished six strokes ahead of runner-up Catwaba (295-310—605). Host Pfeiffer (309-309—618) finished third.
