NINETY SIX, S.C. — Max Newton led the way for the Belmont Abbey men's golf team as the Crusaders opened play at the Patriot Fall Classic Monday at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor. It is the final tournament of the fall season for the Crusaders.
Newton opened play with a 1-under par round of 71 and was 2-under par through 15 holes of his second round when play was suspended due to darkness. He birdied the Par 5 18th hole and the Par 4 1st on his final two holes of the day.
As a team, the Crusaders were 5-over par with a team total of 293.
Will Muldoon shot a 1-over par 73,
Eduardo Arango had a 74 in his first round while
Mariano Estebanez Rincon and
Dylan Reiser rounded out the Abbey five with 75s.
Based on scores available, Belmont Abbey was in fifth place at 3-over par as a team. Wingate's Lewis Beeden led the individual tournament at 11-under par through 14 holes of Round 2 with the Bulldogs also leading the team standings.
