HARTWELL, GA. – The Belmont Abbey women's golf team opened the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship with a first round team score of 322 Sunday at Cateechee Golf Club. The Crusaders entered the event as the defending conference champions.
The team trails first-round leader UNC Pembroke (314) by eight shots and is one shot ahead of third-place Erskine (323) and two ahead of Emmanuel (324).
Kaylee Ong led the way for The Abbey with an opening-round 76. Ong ended the tied for second place with two other golfers who are all one shot behind UNC Pembroke's Toni Blackwell (75).
Morgan Comer opened with an 80 and is tied for 10th as the next best round of the day for Belmont Abbey.
Hannah Bailey shot 82,
Lauren Denhard opened with an 84 followed by
Oxana Braun with a 94.
UP NEXT
- The second round tees off Tuesday off the No. 1 and 10 tees beginning at 8:30 a.m.
- Belmont Abbey will be grouped with UNC Pembroke for the second straight day and Erskine with the first tee time scheduled for 9:15 a.m. off the first tee.
- The third and final round will begin immediately after Round 2 due to inclement weather forecast for Tuesday. Any unfinished holes Monday will be completed Tuesday morning.
