GREENVILLE, S.C. – Belmont Abbey men's tennis player
Nelson Stafford was officially named the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Player of the Week by the league office Wednesday.
A junior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Stafford helped Belmont Abbey stay atop the Conference Carolinas men's tennis standings last week by going undefeated in singles and doubles.
In Belmont Abbey's 7-0 win over Francis Marion, Stafford first teamed with
Zachary Blythe at No. 2 doubles to best Harri Lloyd-Evans and Martin Barbera, 6-2. Stafford then collected a 7-5, 6-1 win over Leonel Gonzalez 7-5, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.
Stafford and Blythe started Belmont Abbey's 4-3 team win over Mount Olive by securing a 6-2 victory over Gregory Normand and Elios Briand at No. 2 doubles. Stafford then picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Adam Ibrahim at No. 2 singles. He is the second men's tennis player to be selected as the conference player of the week after
Xaveam Van Wijk earned the honor last month.
The Crusaders are scheduled to face Converse at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Spartanburg.
