Belmont Abbey senior
Desislava Yordanova was named Honorable Mention for Specialist of the Week as part of the weekly awards announced by the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association Wednesday. Yordanova was a standout performer in the Acro event as a top for the Crusaders March 23 during the tri-meet with Lander and Chowan.
She had all 10.0 start values in the Acro event scoring a 9.95 and a 9.9 in the 6 element and 7 element, respectively. Both scores were new program highs as part of the 11 individual heat records set and the first overall score of 270 points or better in program history. The Crusaders finished the meet with a total score of 273.990.
It is the second time this season that a Crusader has been recognized nationally by the NCATA after
Molly Hanley was named an honorable mention in the tumbling event back in February.
The Crusaders return to competition with their final meet of the regular season against Converse at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Wheeler Center. The winner of Saturday's meet will be the No. 3 seed in the Conference Carolinas Championship April 9-10 in Bristol, Tennessee.
