GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey acrobatics and tumbling team set new program-highs and broke the 270-point mark for the first time to earn a pair of victories at the Lander tri-meet Wednesday evening.
The Crusaders defeated host Lander 273.990-266.835 and Chowan 273.990-121.725.
Belmont Abbey got the meet off to a strong start by finishing with a team-best 38.5 out of a possible 40 point in the Compulsory event, highlighted by the first 10 in program history during the Compulsory Pyramid heat. The Crusaders also set new bests in the Acro Heat (9.4/10), Toss Heat (9.8/10) and Tumbling Heat (9.25/10).
Desislava Yordanova and
Anna Davis also helped the Crusaders two more program highs in Heats 2 (6 Element) and 3 (7 Element) of the Acro Event. Yordanova, Davis,
Deanna Woolard and
Lauren Pipes earned a 9.95 in Heat 2 while the duo along with
Aspen Terrell and
Molly Hanley earned a 9.9 in Heat 3.
The Abbey continued its strong performance with a 28.75 in the Pyramid event that was led by a 9.95/10 in the Open Pyramid.
The Crusaders earned a total of 27.40 points from a 27.95 total start value in the Toss Event that included a 9.7/9.9 in the 450 Salto Toss and a 9.0/9.25 in the Open Toss, which is another new program best.
Belmont Abbey also set three new heat records and a new best overall score in the Tumbling Event. Yordanova and Davis again teamed up in the Duo Pass to earn a 9.05/9.10 while
Trinity Martinez,
Blythe Terrell,
Braylen Mitchell, and
Gabrielle Cox earned an 8.15/8.50 in the Quad Pass. To close out the event, Yordanova earned a 9.75/10 in the Open Pass to help bring the Crusaders to a 53.9 total for the event.
The Crusaders closed the meet with a 96.59/102 in the Team Event, also a new program best.

Belmont Abbey will host Converse in a dual meet at 3 p.m. April 2 at the Wheeler Center in the final meet of the regular season.
