Box Score WILSON, N.C. - The defense caused 19 turnovers to help the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team to a 14-11 victory at Barton this afternoon. The win puts The Abbey at 5-2 on the season, with a 2-0 Conference Carolinas record. Barton is now 4-3 overall, with a conference record of 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sean Hanrahan tallied the first goal of the game, and Noah Haas scored the next two. Hunter Duford closed out the quarter with a man-up goal, and the Crusaders led 5-2 at the end of an exciting first quarter. The defense did not give up a Barton shot in the first five minutes of action
- It only took Nick Deloriers 13 seconds into the second to score a man-up goal. BAC held a 7-6 halftime lead
- Austin Hasen only needed 15 seconds into the third to get the Crusader offense rolling again. Hanrahan scored two minutes later, while the defense only gave up two shots in the first five minutes of the quarter
- Duford found the back of the net at the 5:44 mark. The Bulldogs scored twice more in the quarter, but Belmont Abbey held a 11-10 lead heading into the final period
- In the fourth, Hasen again got the offense moving quickly, with a man-up goal just 22 seconds into the period. Then Hanrahan scored two goals in less than a minute to wrap up 14-11 victory for The Abbey
- Hanrahan scored four goals on the day to lead all scorers
- James Bucher caused four Bulldog turnovers to lead a defensive unit that caused 19. He also picked up five ground balls
- Bryce Gifford made eight saves in goal
