Maria Kuhlman went 7-for-7 from the field, including 6-for-6 from three-point range to lead the Belmont Abbey women's basketball team past North Greenville 83-51 this afternoon. The win puts The Abbey at 10-2 on the year, with a 6-1 conference record. North Greenville is now 3-3 on the year, with a 3-3 Conference Carolinas mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brittany Autry made a layup that gave BAC a 4-3 lead and The Abbey never looked back after that. Belmont Abbey held NGU to just one made field goal in the quarter, and led 18-3 when the period expired
- In the second, six Belmont Abbey scoring plays in a row came from 3-pointers, four of which came from Kuhlman. Later in the quarter, The Abbey held NGU scoreless for a 3:32 span, and held a strong 47-27 lead at halftime
- It didn't take Kuhlman long into the third to nail another 3-point basket. The defense also was very strong, holding North Greenville to one point over a 5:38 span. That gave The Abbey a 64-36 lead. BAC held a 71-38 lead heading into the final period
- Sydni Clawges got the scoring started for The Abbey in the fourth. Keyla Hines scored six in the period to help BAC wrap up the 83-51 win
- On the day, Kuhlman was the Belmont Abbey leader, with 20 points on 7-for-7 shooting.
- Allie Downing also scored 20, on 9-for-13 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds. Kelli Thomas scored nine, while Alexis Schulz handed out a game-high six assists
