Andrew Kohut and
Matteo Miselli both reached double figures in kills and Belmont Abbey hit .377 overall in a 3-0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-17) victory over Tusculum Saturday afternoon. The win is the third straight to open the season, the third time in program history it has opened 3-0.
Kohut and Miselli tallied 10 kills each, while
Brennan Davis dished out 29 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Â The Crusaders hit .377 as a team with 34 kills against 11Â errors in 61 attempts.
- Kohut added three aces, four digs and a block. He posted a hitting percentage of .375.
- The trio of Riley Mulkey, Gage Giller and Williams Morris combined for 14 kills and just one error.
- In the opening set, Belmont Abbey led 5-4 when it used back-to-back 5-2 runs to opened a 15-8Â advantage. The Crusaders closed out the set 25-13 with a kill by Mulkey.
- The second set was a back-and-forth affair with biggest margin throughout was just four points, 23-19 in favor of The Abbey. The Pioneers scored four of the next five points to even the set at 24-24, but a service error and Miselli kill gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.
- In the third set, the Crusaders never trailed, breaking a 1-1 tied with two straight points to start a 6-1 spurt. Tusculum clawed back to within two, the last at 9-7 but three straight points created the separation needed for the road victory.
- The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the campaign.
