Crusaders Enjoy Team Effort in 3-0 Win over Lees-McRae

BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey hit .339 as a team and combined for 16 services aces, leading the Crusaders to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19) victory over Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Wednesday night. With the win, the Crusaders even their league record at 5-5, while improving to 8-10 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Only five players registered kills, with each of them tallying at least five. Andrew Kohut was the leader with seven, while Gage Giller, Kyle Ferguson and Liam Maxwell each had six. Brian Long added five.
  • Brennan Davis dished out 26 of the Crusaders' 28 assists and added three aces and three digs.
  • Long led the team in service aces with four, while Maxwell was credited with three. A total of seven players had at least one ace.
  • Matthew Maxwell tallied a team-best five digs.
  • The Crusaders led the first set wire-to-wire after opening with the first two points.
  • In the second set, The Abbey led 8-7 before going on a 6-0 run that extended to 13-4.
  • Trailing 5-4 in the third, the Crusaders ran off six straight points Giller broke a 5-5 tie with five straight points on his serve.
