Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kelli Thomas set a career-high scoring mark, tallying 11 points in just 16 minutes, as the top 15 nationally-ranked Crusader women's basketball team rolled past Converse 70-39. The victory moves The Abbey to 20-2 on the season, including a 15-1 conference record. The Valkyries are now 3-22 overall, and 2-14 in Conference Carolinas play.
How it Happened
- Belmont Abbey scored the first nine points of the contest. On the defensive side, the Crusaders did not give up a field goal until the 1:42 mark of the first quarter. When the period ended, The Abbey led 18-7
- Alexis Schulz scored the first five Abbey points of the second. Two 3-point shots by Maria Kuhlman put BAC in front 34-14. Belmont Abbey held Converse scoreless for three minutes, and held a 39-17 lead at halftime
- The early part of the third was a defensive battle, with neither team scoring for three minutes. The Abbey held the Valkyries to just nine points in the quarter, and led 53-26 heading into the final period
- The Crusaders opened the fourth on a 6-0 run, with Thomas scoring four of the six. She scored eight in the period
- Belmont Abbey held Converse to just four points in the final 5:20 of the contest to wrap up the 70-39 win
- Thomas went 4-for-6 on the night, for 11 points and nine to rebounds to lead Belmont Abbey
- Schulz chipped in 10, while Manuela Fungate pulled down eight rebounds
- The BAC defense held Converse to 20% shooting on the night
