Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Austin Hasen scored four goals and dished out an assist as the #6-ranked Abbey men's lacrosse team defeated #16-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne 12-7 this afternoon. The win gives The Abbey a 4-0 record, while the Bears dip to 2-1.
How it Happened
- Sean Hanrahan set up Hasen for the first goal of the game, then he scored a man-up goal just 23 seconds later
- Later in the quarter, Hanrahan set up Hasen for another score. Then Noah Haas scored as the quarter expired to give the Crusaders a 5-1 lead
- After the Bears tied the game at five in the second, a man-up goal by Haas at the 5:13 mark put BAC in front 6-5, which was the Crusader lead at halftime. Belmont Abbey, however, never looked back after that
- The strong Crusader defense only gave up two shots in the first five minutes of the third
- Jack Piggott and Hunter Duford scored goals just 1:50 apart, and Belmont Abbey held an 8-6 lead heading into the final period
- The fourth quarter was all Abbey. Piggott scored his second goal of the day less than two minutes into the period. Brady Smith won the ensuing faceoff, bolted downfield, and made a pass to haas for a score and a 10-6 lead
- After that, it was Hasen capitalizing on a man-up opportunity. Hasen scored again in the closing minutes, and Belmont Abbey wrapped up the 12-7 victory
- On the day, Hasen was the Crusaders' leader with four goals and an assist
- Haas scored three times. Brady Smith won six of his nine faceoffs, and picked up a game-high six gtround balls
- Bryce Gifford made 16 saves in goal
