Box Score BELMONT, N.C. - Ben Utrosa scored three goals, and set up teammates for three others as the #6-ranked men's lacrosse team defeated Florida Southern 12-10. The Abbey improves to 3-0 on the year. The Moccasins are now 1-1.
How it Happened
- Florida Southern scored first, but Sean Hanrahan responded two minutes later with a man-up goal. He scored again near the end of the period to tie the game at two when the quarter expired
- Jack Piggott set up Utrosa for a goal just 2:09 into the second to put the Crusaders on top 3-2
- With six minutes remaining in the half, Utrosa scored a man-down goal, the team's second this year, off a pass from Patrick Bagatta
- Austin Hasen closed out the half with a man-up goal off a pass from Hanrahan, and the Crusaders led 6-2 at halftime
- Hasen only needed 18 seconds into the third to increase The Abbey's margin
- Not long after that, Hanrahan set up Luke Spanier for a man-up goal, and later in the quarter scored a man-up goal himself, and BAC held a 9-5 lead heading into the final period
- Hasen again scored early in the period, off a pass from Utrosa
- The Mocs cut the lead to one at one point, but late goals from Utrosa and Noah Haas helped the Crusaders finish off the 12-10 victory
- On the day, Utrosa was the Crusaders' leader, with three goals and three assists
- Hanrahan finished with three goals and two assists. Bryce Gifford made 19 saves in goal to improve to 3-0 this year
- As a unit, BAC scored on four of its six man-up opportunities
