Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Liam Maxwell tallied 24 kills and Belmont Abbey hit .353 as a team, leading the Crusaders to a 3-2 (25-20, 28-30, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13) come-from-behind victory over Limestone in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Wednesday night.
The hitting percentage was a season-high for The Abbey, which improved to 5-6, 2-2 with the victory. The Saints fall to 6-2, 2-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maxwell hit .367 with just six errors in 49 attempts.
- Andrew Kohut added 15 kills with a .375 effort, while serving four aces and making five digs.
- Brennan Davis paced the offense with 48 assists, while chipping in three aces and six digs.
- Daniel Cerqua led the defensive charge with 10 digs.
- After the teams split the first two sets, Limestone won the third behind a 7-1 run midway through.
- The Crusaders broke a 10-10 tie in the fourth with three straight points and later used consecutive points on serve to stretch a 21-20 lead to 23-20. Kohut forced the fifth with a kill at 24-22.
- The fifth was a back-and-forth affair. The Abbey broke a 6-6 tie with three straight, but the Saints answered with four straight points to retake the lead 10-9. Back-to-back kills by Brian Long gave The Abbey an 11-10 lead, then the Crusaders rebounded from a service error with another two points to lead 13-11. From there, the teams alternated the next four points with a Maxwell kill ending the match 15-13.
