Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. -- Andrew Kohut and Liam Maxwell topped double figures in kills and Brennan Davis added 33 assists, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17) victory in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action Saturday night.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-6, 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kohut had a team-best 12 kills while adding three service aces and eight digs.
- Maxwell hit .280 with 11 kills in 25 attempts. He also had three aces and four digs.
- Davis chipped in six digs to go along with his passing effort.
- Daniel Cerqua led the defensive effort with 16 digs.
- The opening set was tied at 18 when The Abbey scored back-to-back points. After a timeout and point by Lees-McRae, the Crusaders tallied three straight and five of the next six points for a 25-20 win.
- Six straight points after a 14-14 tie helped BAC to a lead in the second, but a 6-2 answer by the Bobcats cut the margin to 24-23. Maxwell increased the lead to 2-0 with the final kill.
- Lees-McRae forced a fourth set by taking the third, but the Crusaders responded. They broke a 2-2 tie with eight straight points and the difference was never less than five after that.
