Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Keyanna Spivey tallied her third double-double of the year and the 21st-ranked Belmont Abbey women's basketball team earned a 95-84 victory at Chowan this evening. The win puts the Crusaders at 18-2 on the year (13-1 in Conference Carolinas play) and guarantees a berth in the league tournament next month, while the Hawks are now to 4-15 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
The 95 points scored by The Abbey are the most since December 1, 2018, when it scored 99.
How it Happened
- Spivey scored four points in the first three minutes. Then The Abbey went on a 13-3 run to end the first quarter, giving the Crusaders a 24-15 lead
- Belmont Abbey went on an 11-2 run early in the second, capped by a three-pointer by Alexis Schulz, to take a 35-21 lead
- By halftime, the Crusaders led 51-34 and did not give up a single 3-point field goal to the Hawks in the second quarter
- In the third, it was Spivey again scoring early, and finishing with six in the period. The Abbey ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to lead 71-61 heading into the final period
- Back-to-back three-point shots by Irelynn Davisson put the Crusaders in front 77-63 early in the fourth
- BAC never let its lead slip below seven, and sealed off the 95-84 win
- On the night, Spivey was the Crusaders' leader with 23 points and 12 rebounds
- Allie Downing also posted a double-double, with 20 points and 10 boards
- Davisson finished with 17 points, while Alexis Schulz and Brittany Autry contributed 11 each
