Box Score MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- DeQuan Abrom topped 30 points for the sixth time this season and Romeao Ferguson and Sean Halloran both reached double figures, lifting Belmont Abbey to an 85-83 road victory over Chowan Tuesday night.
The Crusaders (12-8, 8-5) survived potential game-tying and game-winning shot attempts in the final two seconds to escape with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abrom tallied 33 points on 12 of 18 shooting (two of four three-pointers), while hitting seven of nine free throws. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
- Ferguson added 13 points and dished out a team-best seven assists, while Halloran chipped in 10 points.
- Belmont Abbey hit 61.0 percent from the field and held a 30-27 rebounding advantage.
- The shooting effort marked the third time this season that the Crusaders topped 60 percent.
- The first half was close with a seven-point difference the largest for either team. Chowan finished on an 8-4 run to lead 41-39 at the break.
- The Abbey broke a 49-49 tie with a 9-0 run and never trailed again.
- The Hawks (8-10, 5-8) cut the gap to two on three occasions in the final four minutes, then hit a three-pointer with 54 seconds left to trail 82-81.
- Ferguson pushed the lead back to three with a jumper at the 26-second mark, but Chowan answered with a layup with nine ticks to play.
- Abrom drew an immediate foul, but only made the first of two tries to push the lead to 85-83.
- The Hawks drove the lane, but Bosko Bojovic blocked a tying layup with 1.7 seconds left and a three-point try on the ensuing inbound bounced off the back iron.
