Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Senior Liam Maxwell set the school record with 34 kills and Belmont Abbey forced five sets, but dropped a 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 30-28, 31-29, 15-11) decision at King Saturday in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action.
Maxwell, who already took the career kills record away from Head Coach Nolan Albrecht earlier this year, bested a 33-kill effort by Albrecht against King on March 7, 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maxwell hit .309 with 34 kills against 13 errors in 68 attempts. He added 10 digs, a service ace and three block assists.
- Andrew Kohut also reached double figures in kills with 11 (11-2-17/.529).
- Brennan Davis also registered a double-double with 56 assists, tying his career-high, while making 10 digs. He added eight block assists.
- Daniel Cerqua led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
- King took the odd-numbered sets, while The Abbey responded twice to even the match.
- After falling behind 1-0 in the fifth, King scored three straight. With the score 7-6 in favor of the Tornado, it scored three-straight and four of the next five points to lead 11-7.
- After the Crusaders took three of the next four points close within 12-10, the Tornado was able to regain control to take the match.
