Box Score WILSON, N.C. --
DeQuan Abrom scored 22 of his game-high 31 points after intermission and
Romeao Ferguson posted his fifth double-double this season, leading Belmont Abbey to a 93-83 come-from-behind overtime victory over Barton Thursday night. The 20th-ranked Crusaders overcame a 16-point deficit in the final 14-plus minutes.
The Abbey (10-3, 6-0) trailed 56-40 with 14:37 to play and 66-53 at the 9:41 mark, but used a 10-0 run to close the gap to three. Barton (5-9, 3-4) pushed the lead back to six, but
Quest Aldridge and Abrom hit consecutive three-pointers to even the score at 76. An Abrom layup with 26 seconds left forced the extra session.
- Abram topped 30 points for the fifth time this season and 14th time in his career. He moved into ninth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,726 points, passing Jimmy Reeves (1697 from 1980-84).
- Ferguson tallied 16 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.
- Aldridge, a freshman, registered a career-high 16 points while Sean Halloran chipped in 15 points and seven assists.
- Barton held a 47-34 rebounding advantage, but The Abbey forced 22 turnovers compared to its 10.
- The Crusaders shot just 43.4 percent from the field overall but recovered from a 34.3 percent effort in the first half by nailing 21 of 41 attempts after intermission.
- BAC improved to 1-1 in overtime this season.
- A scheduling quirk had the team facing off in back-to-back outings. The Abbey defeated the Bulldogs 94-84 in Belmont December 20 in the final regular-season action before the holiday break. (The Crusaders did play High Point in an exhibition on December 21.)
- The season sweep of the Bulldogs was the first for the Crusaders since 2003-04.
