Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- William Morris and Jake Somers each tallied 11 kills, but Belmont Abbey fell to Queens 3-1 (28-26, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23) in men's volleyball action Thursday night at the Levine Center.
With the result, the Crusaders now stand 1-3 on the season, while Queens improves to 1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Liam Maxwell tallied nine kills, while Brian Long and Carter Eck each had eight.
- Brennan Davis had 51 of the Crusaders' 52 assists, while adding six digs and a block solo.
- Daniel Cerqua was the defensive leader with 11 digs, while Somers tallied seven.
- The Abbey outhit Queens .183 to .109 in the contest, including a .464 percentage in the third-set win.
- The Crusaders had four service aces against 26 errors.
- The biggest lead for either team in the first set was just two points. With the Royals ahead 20-18, BAC scored back-to-back points to even the score, then the teams traded the next 13 points for a 26-26 tie.
- Queens used a 10-4 run early in the second to pull away, but The Abbey dominated the third set to climb back in the match. Four straight points broke a 9-9 tie, then the surge continued to 10-3 for a 19-12 Crusader lead. Queens tried to rally, but closed only to within four at 22-18.
- In the fourth, the Royals took an early lead, but Belmont Abbey tied the set at 21-21. However, the hosts won two straight and three of the next four points enroute to a 25-23 decision.
