Box Score FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Senior Liam Maxwell registered 12 kills to set the Belmont Abbey career record, but they were not enough as the Crusaders fell to Purdue-Fort Wayne 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 27-25) in men's volleyball action Saturday afternoon. Maxwell now has 1,193 for his career, eight more than current head coach Nolan Albrecht (2013-16).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maxwell hit .257 with 12 kills against three errors in 35 attempts.
- Andrew Kohut also reached double figures in kills with 10.
- The Abbey hit .290 as a team, but the Mastodons bettered that with a .441 percentage.
- Brennan Davis posted team highs for assists with 29 and digs with seven, plus had the only block solo.
- In the first set, PFW broke an 11-11 tie with a 7-3 run, then scored the final three points of the set for a 25-19 win.
- The Crusaders (1-2) never led in the second with Purdue-Fort Wayne taking a 25-17 decision, but battled to a 22-20 lead in the third. Back-to-back points tied the set at 22, then Belmont Abbey saved match points at 24-23 and 25-24. However, with the score even again at 25, consecutive kills ended the comeback.
