Box Score MUNCIE, Ind. -- Liam Maxwell tallied eight kills and Jake Somers added six, but Ball State swept Belmont Abbey 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) in men's volleyball action on Friday night. Maxwell also had a pair of service aces, three digs and an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey hit -.014 with 21 kills and 22 errors in 71 attempts. Somers had the best offensive performance with a .625 hitting percentage.
- Brennan Davis led the offense with 19 assists, while Daniel Cerqua tallied six digs. Davis and Andrew Kohut added four digs each.
- Maxwell moved to within four kills of the school's all-time record.
- Ball State (1-0) pulled early in the first set, using three straight points to open a 10-6 lead that it never relinquished.
- The second set was even at 15-all when the Cardinals used another 3-0 run. The Crusaders cut the margin to 18-17, but five straight points led to a 2-0 BSU lead.
- The Abbey led 4-2 in the third, but Ball State rattled off six straight points and never trailed again.
- The Cardinals hit .133 and had eight service aces. They also had 19 block assists.
