Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- DeQuan Abrom tallied 27 points and Romeao Ferguson just missed a triple-double, plus Belmont Abbey shot 57.9 percent from the field, lifting the Crusaders to an 86-77 upset over sixth-ranked Queens Saturday night.
The contest, which had to be moved from Belmont due to a conflict with the Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship, marks the second straight year that the Crusaders topped a top-10 Royals team on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abrom tallied 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Ferguson registered 18 points nine rebounds and nine assists.
- Ryan Shaffer chipped in nine points, while Charles Solomon added eight points.
- Belmont Abbey's defense limited Queens to 41.7 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers.
- Queens (5-1) bolted to a 16-4 lead in the first 6:18, but the Crusaders answered back with a 17-4 run, including 13 points in a row, to take its first lead at 21-20.
- Four straight points to end the half pushed The Abbey's lead to 38-33 at the break.
- With the score 48-43 early in the second, the Crusaders used a 16-2 spurt to open a 64-45 advantage.
- The lead reached 22 at 71-49 before Queens rallied. But Ferguson hit four free throws in the final 24 seconds to preserve the win.
