Box Score BRISTOL, TN - The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team lost a 107-63 contest to King University this evening in Bristol, TN. The Abbey now stands at 6-5 on the season with a 4-2 conference record. King is now 8-4 and 5-1 against Conference Carolinas opponents.
In the early minutes the lead swung back and forth, with King owning an early four-point lead. The Crusaders responded with a 10-2 run and a four-point lead of their own. Five minutes and three ties later, the first quarter ended with the Tornado leading 24-17. Belmont Abbey started off the second strong, scoring on three of its first four possessions of the period. Then the Crusaders found themselves in a deficit after a span of nearly five minutes in which they only managed one basket. King led 52-33 at halftime. By this point, freshman forward Chrystal Ezechukwu had scored a team-high eight points and pulled down a game-leading seven rebounds.
By midpoint of the third, the Abbey had scored six more points. Ezechukwu continued to shine throughout the quarter. She earned a double-double by the period's close as she increased her points scored to 12, and grabbed her 10th rebound, both game-highs. The Tornado led 78-50 at the end of the quarter. The final score was 107-63.
On the night, Ezechukwu's 12 points and 10 rebounds were both team highs. It was her fourth double-double this season. Senior guard Larisa Bishop chipped in 10 points.
The Abbey will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2pm at Lees-McRae College.
