Box Score

BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey College men's volleyball team improved to 10-7 in Conference Carolinas play and 15-10 overall with a four set win over league leading Erskine Flying Fleet (15-3 CC, 18-6 Overall). The win is the first time in program history that the Abbey has defeated the Flying Fleet. The Abbey out-blocked the Fleet 11-5 and hit a .205 clip over Erskine's .165.

Belmont Abbey took down the Flying Fleet 17-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23.

Senior outside hitter Nolan Albrecht led all attackers with 20 kills on 48 attempts and a .229 attack percentage. Senior middle blocker Justin Snyder notched a .444 clip with two blocks and two aces.

In the first set, The Abbey jumped out to an 11-8 lead scoring the first eight points of the frame. A Snyder service error followed by three Roberto Perez Vargas kills evened the set at 11 apiece. At 17 each, Erskine pulled away to go on a commanding run to close the set 17-25.

The Abbey responded positively in the second set only trailing until 7-7. At 8-7, The Abbey held their lead for the remainder of the set. At 21-16, Belmont Abbey's largest lead of the set, Erskine made a push but faltered with a series of unforced errors and a strong Abbey offense.

Trailing in the second set was the last time the Abbey would be behind the rest of the match.

Using momentum and in-system strengths, the Abbey jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third forcing an early Erskine timeout. Erskine challenged after its timeout going on a 4-2 run but the Abbey responded scoring nine of the next 14 points.

Set four was a battle for both teams as the Abbey held the lead but by a slim margin. Tied at 14, Belmont Abbey opened the scoring with an Albrecht kill. The Abbey continued its consistent and strong style of play finishing the set and match easily.

Currently sitting fifth in Conference Carolinas standings, the Abbey is slated to play Mount Olive on Saturday, April 16th. A King win over Mount Olive will push Belmont Abbey into fourth place hosting the first round of tournament play.

The Abbey is back in action on Saturday, April 9, 4:00 PM at Coker.
