SPARTANBURG, SC - Belmont Abbey took five of six singles matches, as the Crusaders, downed Converse College, 7-2, in a Conference Carolinas match Thursday afternoon at the Converse Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, SC. With the win, Belmont Abbey improves to 7-15 overall, 4-5 in conference action, while Converse falls to 6-12, 2-7 in league play.
The Crusaders opened up the match claiming two victories in doubles play. At #2 flight, Darian DeFrench and Lillie Mehan defeated Alex Schlesener and Samantha Sheffield, 8-5, while Brylee Seitz and Erika Noblett defeated Taylor Littlejohn-Barr and Klaire Rouse, 8-1.
DeFrench would later pick up a win at the #1 singles position, by defeating Schlesener, 6-4, 6-3. Both Seitz and Noblett, joined DeFrench with perfect 2-0 records for the afternoon. Seitz cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sheffield, while Noblett would claim the win over Rouse, 6-0, 6-3.
Both Kiersten Cox and Rachele Subik got victories on the afternoon in their respective singles match. At #2 singles, Cox, after dropping the first set 2-6, came back to defeat Margaret Pridmore 6-4, 10-7, to win in three sets. Subik earned her win against Littlejohn-Barr, by winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 at #5 singles.
Belmont Abbey returns to action Friday, April 22, against Conference Carolinas opponent Emmanuel College. First serve is at 2 p.m. from the Michael Reidy Tennis Center on the campus of Belmont Abbey College.
