Box Score BELMONT, NC - The Belmont Abbey College men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Barton College (23-25, 22-25, 21-25). With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in Conference Carolina play.
Senior outside hitter Nolan Albrecht led all attackers with 13 kills and a .323 clip. Senior setter Derek Sullivan notched 27 assists and one ace. Sophomore libero Robert Valentine led all players eight digs.
The Bulldogs used a balance attack to secure the victory with three players with 20+ attacks and 11+ kills. The Abbey out-blocked Barton seven to two.
Belmont Abbey led the entire first set until a three point run for the Bulldogs brought the match to 19 apiece. The teams traded points until 22-23 when Barton pulled away on an Aleksa Brkovic kill and Albrecht error.
The Abbey trailed the entire second set. After going back and forth, BAC tied the set at 11. Facing a five-point deficit at 18-23, Belmont Abbey crawled back to within two forcing a Barton timeout. A Brkovic kill and Schaffer error ended the second set.
Belmont Abbey held the lead for three points late in the third set but kills from Tang-Taye and Hyde pushed Barton to a 19-20 lead which was held until the end of the set.
Belmont Abbey is back in action on Wednesday, April 6 at Pfeiffer with a start time of 7:00 PM.
