Box Score GAFFNEY, SC - The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team improved to 9-4 on the season and 6-4 in Conference Carolinas play as they defeated the Saints of Limestone College 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17).
Senior outside hitter Nolan Albrecht led both teams collecting 23 kills on 44 attempts notching a .432 clip. Brennan Beyner added nine kills and six digs to the score sheet. Senior setter Derek Sullivan paced the offense with 40 assists and adding five blocks, leading both teams.
The Saints were led by Bruno Kretzschmar who tallied 13 kills and 1.5 blocks.
Limestone started the first set strong taking the lead until a Logan Riley service error evened the frame at nine. The teams traded points until a Derek Sullivan kill at 16-16 gave the Crusaders the lead for good.
The second set was paced by the Saints who jumped to a 16-11 lead. The Abbey crawled back into the match but the Saints offense was too strong.
The Crusaders led the entire third set on fire as they pushed a Limestone timeout at 8-5. From there, Belmont Abbey cruised through the set without hesitation.
Set four was all Belmont Abbey who garnered the lead and did not falter. Junior libero David Radoszewski sealed the victory with a commanding ace.
Belmont Abbey hit .265 with eight service ace and 14 blocks. Albrecht added five aces. Sophomore libero Robert Valentine led the back court with 16 digs.
The Abbey is back in action on Monday, March 7th as they take on King University in Berea, KY.
