Box Score 2 The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team scored two dominating 3-0 victories today inside the Wheeler Center, sweeping St. Andrews and King both by 3-0 scores in the home opener. Belmont Abbey dismissed the Knights 25-13, 25-14 and 25-8, then moved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Conference Carolinas with a 3-0 win over the Tornado by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16.
Belmont Abbey made easy work of both matches, defeating the Knights in exactly one hour and finishing off King in 59 minutes as the Crusaders never trailed at any point in either match.
In the opener, Belmont Abbey hit .351 and held St. Andrews to a -.172 attack as freshman Carson Flood established his career high with nine kills. Dustin Buell and Justin Snyder both added eight as the Crusaders totaled 36 kills on 74 attacks with ten errors. Peter Stewart handed out 29 assists. Robert Nixon added one while posting a career-high six service aces. Belmont Abbey finished with 13 aces as Flood added three and Snyder two, with Buell and Gavin Schaffer both chipping in with one.
Defensively, Belmont Abbey collected 31 digs as David Radoszewski posted a career-high 15. Nixon added seven. At the net, Snyder dominated with three block solos and one assist. Schaffer added two block assists.
In the nightcap, the Crusaders used a torrid .368 attack as Nolan Albrecht led all players with 15 kills on 27 attacks with one error (.519). Snyder hit .875 as he slammed down seven kills on eight attacks with no errors. He added two block solos and an assist. Derek Sullivan handed out 28 assists while hitting .625, posting five kills on eight attacks with no errors. Albrecht added three service aces with Snyder contributing a pair.
Robert Valentine's 13 digs led all players with Jon Lowenhagen adding seven. At the net, along with Snyder's two block solos, Sullivan posted two with Lowenhagen, Buell and Schaffer all finishing with one.
Belmont Abbey is back on the Wheeler Center court twice tomorrow, hosting Lees-McRae at 2:00 followed by Alderson-Broaddus at 5:00.
