Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team capped off its best regular season in school history with a 3-0 win over the visiting Lees-McRae Bobcats this evening inside the Wheeler Center on Senior Night. Belmont Abbey needed just one hour and four minutes to dismiss the Bobcats by scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18. Belmont Abbey is now 13-13 overall and finishes the Conference Carolinas schedule with a 9-9 mark.
The nine conference wins is a new program high, eclipsing the record of six in the first season of 2013, and the 13 overall wins is also a new program high. Lees-McRae ends its season with a mark of 3-19 overall and 2-16 in Conference Carolinas.
Three seniors: Eddie Pennington, Brandon Kimbrell and student assistant coach Spencer Fournell were honored prior to the match, with Pennington earning his first career start as a setter.
Belmont Abbey hit .267 as Nolan Albrecht tied for the match high with 12 kills. Anthony Pippen added eight and Dustin Buell contributed six. Kimbrell finished with three.
Pennington, in his first career start at setter, logged career-highs with 26 assists and three kills. He hit .333 for the match.
Defensively, Jon Lowenhagen's five digs led the way with Albrecht adding three. At the net, Pennington recorded two block assists, while Buell logged a match-high three. Buell added two block solos.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Saturday in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Crusaders will face either Mount Olive, the third seed, or second seeded Erskine.
