Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team scored its program record tying fifth league victory as junior outside hitter Nolan Albrecht led all players with 15 kills and sophomore Brennan Beyner set a career-high with five service aces in a 3-0 sweep over North Greenville this evening inside the Wheeler Center. Belmont Abbey dismissed the visitors in one hour and one minute as it won by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-21.
Belmont Abbey is now 9-9 overall and 5-5 in league play, while North Greenville, a first year program, falls to 8-15 overall and 2-11 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders five conference victories ties the mark from the inaugural season of 2013. Tonight's win also moves the Abbey two wins away from matching the record of 11 wins, also set in 2013.
Tonight, the Crusaders offense hit .395 as Albrecht hit .500 with 15 kills on 24 attacks with just three errors. Beyner added eight kills on 17 attacks with just two errors as he hit .353. The sophomore from Kent, Ohio also had five service aces on the night. He entered the match with seven for his collegiate career, spanning 47 matches.
Derek Sullivan handed out 31 assists while recording a .571 attack, slamming down four kills on seven attacks with no errors. Albrecht added two assists.
Defensively, Beyner's eight digs led all players with Sullivan and Anthony Pippen adding six each. Libero Jon Lowenhagen and Albrecht posted five each.
Belmont Abbey is back in action tomorrow at 2:00 with a road match at Erskine.
