Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team outshot Southern Wesleyan 28-0 and attempted all eight corner kicks in the match as six different players scored in a 6-0 Crusaders road victory this afternoon at Childs Field. Belmont Abbey, winners of seven straight, improve to 10-2-1 overall and 8-0-0 in the league, while Southern Wesleyan drops to 1-11 overall and 0-8-0 in the league.
Belmont Abbey has now outscored its conference opponents 33-2 and has posted six shutouts in eight matches.
The Crusaders did not allow a Warriors shot as they scored four times in the first half, with two coming in the first eight minutes, to end any doubt early.
Senior Meghan Philp opened the scoring in the sixth minute, sending a shot from a Laura Shelton pass into the upper right corner of the net for her tenth goal of the year and her seventh in conference play.
Less than two minutes later, Shelton made it 2-0 as she finished a pass from Cassidy Coutinho.
The score remained 2-0 until the 33rd minute when Kooba Richard netted the Abbey's third goal of the match, beating goalkeeper Courtney McNeil. Rachel Lambert was credited with the assist.
Richard set up the Abbey's fourth and final goal of half, sending a pass over to Nicole Ferren, who beat McNeil for her first marker of the year.
Belmont Abbey scored four times on 17 shots and attempted six corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
The Crusaders added two second half goals to record their second 6-0 result in conference play this season.
Coutinho netted the Abbey's fifth goal of the match at the 49:10 mark, heading home a Megan Nanney cross.
Cierra Skyers closed the scoring in the 57th minute as she beat McNeil one on one after racing down a through ball from Philp.
Megan Bowen did not face a shot in the match as her record moved to 7-1-0 as she tended goal the first 70 minutes. Kat Andrews played the final 19 minutes.
The Crusaders are back in action Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. as they step out of conference play when hosting Tusculum.
