Pippen Becomes First Player In Program History To Record 20 Kills In Men's Volleyball's 3-2 Loss At King

Belmont Abbey junior opposite hitter Anthony Pippen became the first player in the three year history of the men's volleyball program to record 20 kills in a match but the King Tornado rallied back from two sets down to claim a 3-2 victory this evening in a Conference Carolinas match. Set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 20-25, 23-25 and 8-15. The homestanding Tornado improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey slips to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Crusaders are now 2-6 all-time in five set matches.

Pippen hit .250 as he established a school record with 20 kills on 44 attacks with just nine errors.  Nolan Albrecht added 15 to record double figures for the third time in four matches and Brennan Beyner added ten. Derek Sullivan handed out 44 assists with Albrecht handing out a pair.

Defensively, Pippen's 14 digs was a match-high, with libero Jon Lowenhagen adding 11. Albrecht finished with 12.

At the net the Abbey totaled 24 block assists as Justin Snyder led the way with six. Beyner added five  and Dustin Buell totaled four.

The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 when taking on Lees-McRae.
