Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's volleyball team recorded a school-record 15 total blocks and Justin Snyder posted a career-high ten kills to lead the Crusaders past the visiting Coker Cobras 3-0 this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-19, 25-23 and 25-22. Belmont Abbey snaps a five match losing streak as it improves to 2-8, while the Cobras fall to 4-7.
Belmont Abbey hit a blistering .299 for the match as Snyder led the way with a .450 attack, posting ten kills on 20 attempts with just one error. Spencer Fournell and Jon Lowenhagen both added nine. Lowenhagen hit .500, while Evan Young hit .571 as he posted five kills on seven attempts with just one error.
The offense was on fire all three sets, as the Crusaders hit .333 in the first, .216 in the second and .379 in the third.
Derek Sullivan finished with 31 assists with Fournell and Johnny Gomez both handing out a pair.
It was the Abbey's dominance at the net, however that gave the Crusaders the momentum throughout the match.
The Crusaders recorded 8.5 blocks in the first set alone as Lowenhagen and Dustin Buell both had two block assists, while Young, Snyder and Fournell each had one. Buell added two solo blocks in the frame.
For the match, Buell totaled four block assists and two solo, Lowenhagen rejected one on his own to go with four assisted, while Young put back three solos and two assisted. Fournell had two block assists.
Sullivan led the Abbey in digs with seven while Gomez and Lowenhagen both registering six.
Belmont Abbey is now off for a week and returns to action next Saturday at 2:00 when hosting King.
