Box Score The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored three of its six goals in the first 15 minutes as five different players recorded goals in an easy 6-0 Homecoming victory over Southern Wesleyan this afternoon at Alumni Field. Belmont Abbey improves to 3-5-2 overall and 2-2-0 in league play, while the Warriors drop to 1-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Conference Carolinas.
Junior midfielder Cassidy Coutinho scored two goals and added an assist, while Meghan Philp, Laura Shelton, Cierra Skyers and Jillian Lang added goals.
Senior goalkeeper Hannah Kohls posted her third shutout as she stopped one shot on Southern Wesleyan's only real chance of the game, coming midway through the second half.
The Crusaders outshot the Warriors 31-2 as they put the game away early. Philp scored just 2:42 into the match as she tapped in a rebound off of a saved shot by Coutinho for her team leading seventh goal of the season.
Seven minutes later, Coutinho bagged her first goal of the game as she fired a shot from 25 yards out, from the left side, falling into the top right corner of the net to double the Abbey's advantage.
Laura Shelton made it 3-0 at the 14:48 mark as she scored on a tough angle, lofting a shot from the left goal line that swerved over the head of goalkeeper Courtney McNeil and into the center of the right netting.
Coutinho extended the lead to 4-0 in the 27th minute for her second of the match, as she netted an unassisted goal, her third of the season.
The Crusaders added two more in the second half as Cierra Skyers blasted home a shot from the right side of the box in the 48th minute, and Jillian Lang closed the scoring in the 57th as she took advantage of a failed Warriors clear and fired a screamer from 20 yards out for her third strike of the season.
In addition to the shots advantage Belmont Abbey attempted all nine corner kicks in the match.
