Box Score Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Cierra Skyers scored two second half goals and senior goalkeeper Hannah Kohls recorded her fifth shutout as the Crusaders women's soccer team extended their winning streak to three with a 2-0 away result at Erskine this afternoon. Belmont Abbey improves to 5-5-2 overall and 4-3-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Fleet drop to 2-8-0 overall and 1-5-0 in Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders controlled the entire match, outshooting Erskine 19-4 and attempting all 12 corner kicks in the match.
Robyn Hatcher nearly put the Abbey ahead 1-0 just 1:51 in as her header was swatted away by a Erskine defender on the goal line.
The game was knotted at 0-0 when Skyers scored her second game winning goal in as many matches. Maggie Moore centered a crossing pass to the middle of the box where Skyers was waiting, and her low shot found the left corner past Ashton Burgess for her sixth goal of the season.
28 minutes later the Oshawa, Ontario native put the exclamation point on the 2-0 win as she beat Burgess to a 50-50 ball and tapped home her fourth goal in the past three contests.
Kohls made one save as she posted her third consecutive shutout. Belmont Abbey has outscored its last three opponents 9-0.
Belmont Abbey is back in action Tuesday at 1:00 when it welcomes North Greenville to the Alumni Field pitch.
